The Quarry

Role: VFX Artist.

It’s late summer in the remote forests of upstate New York, and the teen counselors of Hackett’s Quarry have the camp to themselves for one final night. That means no kids, no adults, and no rules. In this thrilling cinematic tale, you control the fates of all nine camp counselors as their party plans unravel into an unpredictable night of horror. With life-or-death decisions around every turn, the choices you make will determine how the story unfolds.

Little nightmares 2 - 4K Enhanced Edition

Role: VFX Designer.
Enhancing the particle systems in the game. Making them interactive, higher detail and finetuning them to complement the level and game design.

Return to a world of charming horror in Little Nightmares II, a suspense adventure game in which you play as Mono, a young boy trapped in a world that has been distorted by the humming transmission of a distant tower.

With Six, the girl in the yellow raincoat, as his guide, Mono sets out to discover the dark secrets of The Signal Tower. Their journey won't be easy; Mono and Six will face a host of new threats from the terrible residents of this world.

Created this small sequence inspired by The Mirror Matt drawing to test out Unreal 5 and MetaHuman for the first time.

Operation GrindStone

Role: Game/Level/VFX Art.
Created the Games Tech.

This is a Psychalogical Horror game set in a First person shooter scenario. The game lobby is haunted and the player will experience pure solitude and chilling horror moments that will make you the way you look at the fps games you know.

Frozen Arena

Role: UX/UI Design, Technical Artist, VFX

Frozen Arena is a multiplayer game, where you have to survive as longest on the floating ice islands. While the island is falling apart over time, you and your opponents will fight on this slippery stadium to be the last one alive.


This game was made during a 3 week (group)project, with the goal to be played on an arcade machine.

Made in Abyss: The Quest for Riko

Role: UI/UX Design, Technical Artist

Based on the anime of the same name, “Made In Abyss: The Quest for Riko” is a fan based, open-world action platformer that takes place on the first layer of the Abyss. You play as Reg, a recently discovered artifact that is trying to find his friend “Riko”. A young girl who he must find to escape the cave and continue forth in their journey to reach the bottom of the perilous abyss.

This is a project that we collaborated on with several close friends of mine to create a project that celebrates the incredible work and world that Akihito Tsukushi has created. The idea was to collaborate our efforts to make something visually distinct and to design a narrative driven experience that represented the experience that the anime conveyed to us as viewers. The project is still work in progress but we are very close to finishing.

During my fourth year I followed a half year project with the goal to improve medical simulation lessons by increasing the immersion and feedback during those workshops. We did this by using Microsoft's Hololens and created a 2D and 3D feedback to support the clearance of certain simulations.

My task was to focus on clear and user friendly UI with a modern design style.

I created 2D elements, but also multiple shaders and particle systems in Unity for the 3D parts.

Bubbles Are Hard
This game is about to take you on a delightful journey in a land filled with dreams, joy and happiness. Chocolate rivers, candy cane trees and mountains made from ice and cotton candy. Here you play as a newly conscious AI robot that has just been created, his goal is to cross this candy filled land and bring his precious crystal memory to safety, with the purpose of finding his creator. To be able to do this he has to make sure he picks the right parts to assemble his new mechanical body, because relearning how to walk in this Land-of-Nod is already hard enough!

For this event we had the goal to create a touch game for children from 7 to 14 that could be displayed in the museum in Hengelo. This game had to teach children more about the environment and renewable energy. How everybody can help out for a greener planet.

BankHack
The topic of this years GGJ was "Waves".
We used this to represent the waves of data and network connections.
In this game you act as a hacker who is hacking into bank systems, while the police is following your steps closely. By a typing based mechanic you have to type as quickly as possible to achieve that loot. But if you are not fast enough, the police will catch you and lock you up forever!

About

A quick summary of what brought me here.

I am Tim Joosten. Since a young age I´ve always been interested in design and the creation of it. I grew up in my dad´s print shop and learned a lot about fun of design. After the first time I got in touch with the Adobe package I was hooked. Since then I started to play around in Photoshop, Illustrator and edited videos using Sony Vegas and Premiere.

After middle school I followed a Media Design study at the ROC of Nijmegen. Once that was finished I wanted to focus more on games and the interactive parts of design, this lead me to study Game Design and Production on Saxion University. After two years of learning all the basics and participating in multiple projects I found out that the Technical part of Shaders and VFX intrigued me the most.

These days I keep myself of the streets creating procedural materials, shaders, particle systems and other VFX elements in engines like Unity and UE4.
